Kriptomat Review
What is Kriptomat?
Kriptomat is an up-and-coming exchange from Estonia. It has been active since 2018.
Focus: Simplicity
The focus on Kriptomat seems to be simplicity. Everything feels intuitively straight-forward and you don’t have to browse for hours to find the information you’re looking for. This really distinguishes Kriptomat from many other alternatives on the market.
Advantages
On its website, Kriptomat promotes primarily six things as reasons for choosing them. One advantages is that Kriptomat is licensed with the regulatory authorities in Estonia. Another is that fees are low and transparent. Third and fourth, they support a variety of cryptocurrencies and payment methods. Fifth, you can add multiple bank accounts and use multiple credit cards. And, finally, their support function is available in more than 20 languages and is very responsive. These all seem like proper advantages to us and we understand why Kriptomat promotes them.
Kriptomat Trading View
Different exchanges have different trading views. And there is no “this overview is the best”-view. You should yourself determine which trading view that suits you the best. What the views normally have in common is that they all show the order book or at least part of the order book, a price chart of the chosen cryptocurrency and order history. They normally also have buy and sell-boxes. Before you choose an exchange, try to have a look at the trading view so that you can ascertain that it feels right to you. At this exchange, there is only order boxes. This makes it easily understandable for new crypto investors, while it might lack some features that more experienced traders look for. The below is a picture of the purchase interface at Kriptomat, with some accompanying explanations of how to proceed:
US-investors
US-investors may not trade here. There are many things making it complicated for non-US cryptocurrency exchanges to accept traders from the US. First and foremost, it’s the US’ legal regime. The US-legal regime imposes burdensome obligations on many companies accepting funds from US-investors. Such obligations include, inter alia, preparing marketing material in accordance with SEC-standards and registering them with the SEC (which is a very burdensome process). If you’re from the US, you shouldn’t be too sad though. Use our Exchange Finder to find a US-friendly exchange for you.
Languages
A very positive trait of this exchange is the availability of languages. 20 languages are supported. In addition to English, you have Deutsch, Eesti, Español, Français, Hrvatski, Italiano, Latvietis, Lietuviškai, Magyar, Nederlands, Polski, Português, Română, Slovenčina, Slovenščina, Türkçe, Čeština, Ελληνικά, Български and Русский.
Kriptomat Fees
Kriptomat Trading fees
These are the fees at Kriptomat:
- EUR to BTC 1,45% – minimum fee 1,45 EUR
- BTC to EUR 1,45% – minimum fee 1,45 EUR
- EUR to ETH 1,45% – minimum fee 1,45 EUR
- ETH to EUR 1,45% – minimum fee 1,45 EUR
- EUR to REP 1,45% – minimum fee 1,45 EUR
- REP to EUR 1,45% – minimum fee 1,45 EUR
- GNO to EUR 1,45% – minimum fee 1,45 EUR
- EUR to GNO 1,45% – minimum fee 1,45 EUR
There are also specific credit card purchase fees:
- Credit/Debit card purchase: "variable fee" (not sure what this means) for amounts lower than 100 EUR, but 3.65% for amounts higher than EUR 100. So the "variable fee" is likely higher than 3.65%.
It is difficult to compare these fees with the fees for crypto-to-crypto exchanges as the crypto-to-crypto exchanges’ fees are much lower. The global industry average trading fees for crypto-to-crypto exchanges are around 0.25%. However, this is partly explained by the fact that the crypto-to-crypto exchanges do not have to worry about bank transaction fees and the cost of the fiat payment IT infrastructure. We leave it up to you to decide whether these fees are acceptable to you or not.
Kriptomat Withdrawal fees
Many exchanges have competitive trading fees but then hit you on the way out with their withdrawal fees. Let’s say you have reached your investment goals and you are looking to pay with Bitcoin in real life. In order to do so, you need to withdraw the funds. And when doing so, the exchange can make up for its low trading fees by charging you high withdrawal fees when you’re halfway out the door.
Kriptomat doesn’t do this however. They only charge 0.0006 BTC per BTC-withdrawal. This is on point with what we have found to be industry average BTC-withdrawal fees (0.0006 BTC).
Deposit Methods
At Kriptomat, you can deposit through both SEPA-transfer and credit cards. Kriptomat thus qualifies as a so called “entry-level exchange”, which is especially beneficial to newer crypto investors.
On 12 March 2019, the exchange also announced a partnership with Zimpler, a Swedish fintech that specializes in mobile payments. Through this partnership, on-boarding new customers in Sweden, Germany and Finland is extremely simple and streamlined at this exchange.
