The deputy governor of the Bank of Russia said Russians can only invest in cryptocurrencies via foreign companies

A report earlier this week by the state-owned publication TASS cited Bank of Russia’s deputy governor Vladimir Chistyukhin stating that Russians can only invest in cryptocurrencies like Bitcoin via foreign companies.

The deputy governor said, “Russian citizens and businesses have the right to acquire and hold cryptocurrency, but not through the domestic infrastructure or intermediaries.”

He added that the government is working to provide more regulatory clarity on the cryptocurrency industry. The BoR official said Russian authorities will be considering legal initiatives regarding cryptocurrencies.
