Bitmain To Launch A More Efficient Bitcoin Miner
Bitmain, the world's leading Bitcoin mining hardware manufacturer, is reportedly set to launch a new, more efficient Bitcoin miner. According to the latest reports, the mining hardware is designed on the latest 5-nanometer (5-nm) chip technology, which is faster and takes less energy.
The miner boasts a computing power of 150 terahashes per second (TH/s) with an energy consumption of 3.1 kilowatt-hours (kWh). Colin Wu, a former communications manager at Bitmain, popularly known on Twitter as Wu Blockchain, made this known in a tweet a few hours ago.
The mining hardware, dubbed S19XP, will be announced by Bitmain at its mining conference in Dubai this week. The company has already been pitching the mining hardware to some of its customers.
Bitmain remains the leading Bitcoin mining hardware manufacturer despite China's recent ban on cryptocurrency mining activities. The company said it no longer ships its machines to mainland China and has gained a large market in North America.
North America has become the new home for most Chinese mining farms and individual miners. For the first time in history, the United States had the largest Bitcoin mining hash rate in the cryptocurrency space.
Bitmain's current most powerful equipment, S19 Pro, operates on the 7-nm chip technology. It has a hash power of 110 TH/s with a power consumption of about 3.1 kWh. Based on these figures, the new miner is expected to be 36% stronger than the S19 Pro despite using a similar amount of energy.
The mining hardware manufacturer began ordering 5-nm chips earlier this year from Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company. With this latest hardware, it could become faster, easier and more efficient for Bitcoin miners to mine the leading cryptocurrency.
