Ethereum Name Service has partnered with GoDaddy to enable users to link their wallets to domains, allowing users to have greater control over their decentralized identities.

TL;DR

  • ENS has partnered with GoDaddy to allow users to easily link their wallets to web pages.

  • The ENS .eth domains are censorship-resistant and tamper-proof by design.

ENS and GoDaddy Enter a Strategic Partnership

Ethereum Name Service (ENS), a domain naming system on the Ethereum blockchain, has entered into a strategic partnership with GoDaddy, a domain registrar, to enable users to easily link their wallets to web pages.

ENS’s integration with GoDaddy, one of the leading web hosting providers, will enable users to connect their simplified ENS wallet addresses with their DNS.

The partnership between the two entities also eliminates the barrier of high gas fees that previously made it tough for users to bring domain names over to ENS Paul Nicks, president of domains at GoDaddy said this latest development is the fusion of domain names and blockchain technologies, which benefits the Web2 and Web3 ecosystems.

ENS also enabled the cost-free transition by deploying new smart contracts for the resolution process. This implies that DNS domain holders can have greater control over their decentralized identities.

Nick Johnson, the founder and lead developer of ENS, told Blockworks that due to the decentralized nature of Web3 domains, entities themselves can not suspend, take or control an ENS .eth domain. He said,

“ENS .eth domains are censorship-resistant and tamper-proof by design; even the ENS DAO has no power to revoke or restrict a .eth domain. Names that are imported from DNS — using our new integration with GoDaddy or our legacy integration — remain subject to the registrar they are held with, and the rules imposed by the registrar and ICANN.”

This latest partnership is a gateway for Web2 domain users to access blockchain technologies via their domains.
