ENS Unveils Namechain: A Layer 2 Evolution

Ethereum Name Service (ENS) is set to transform its blockchain domain ecosystem by launching Namechain, a new Layer 2 network powered by Linea's advanced zkEVM technology. This strategic move aims to enhance the flexibility, efficiency, and scalability of ENS domain services.

Technological Foundation of Namechain

Linea's Type 2 zkEVM technology provides a critical technological backbone for Namechain, ensuring seamless compatibility with existing Ethereum smart contracts and development tools. The collaboration brings a trust-minimized version of ERC-3668, which supports decentralized cross-chain name resolution for subnames.

By leveraging Layer 2 technology, ENS anticipates significant improvements in transaction throughput and cost-effectiveness. The approach allows for increased volumes of domain registrations and renewals while maintaining integration with the broader Ethereum ecosystem.

Strategic Expansion of ENS Services

The Namechain launch is a key component of the ENSv2 upgrade, strategically positioning the service for future blockchain innovations. While primary .eth domain activities will migrate to Layer 2, name resolution will continue to be managed on Ethereum's Layer 1, ensuring consistent ecosystem compatibility.

ENS Labs envisions this expansion as an opportunity to develop innovative applications in cross-chain name resolution, decentralized hosting, and digital identity verification. The project represents a significant step in making blockchain domains more accessible and user-friendly.

Recent developments have already demonstrated ENS's growing relevance, including integrations with payment platforms like PayPal and Venmo, which enable crypto transfers for over 270 million users in the United States.

The market has responded positively to these innovations, with the ENS token experiencing a notable surge—gaining over 16% in the past week and approximately 130% over the past month.

As blockchain technology continues to evolve, Namechain positions ENS at the forefront of creating more intuitive, efficient digital identity solutions in the cryptocurrency ecosystem.
