Ethereum Pectra Upgrade Could Rollout in Q1 202
Ethereum core developers plan to roll out the Pectra upgrade by the first quarter of 2025. According to the developer, Pectra is the next major update for Ethereum after the Dencun upgrade, which was effectively implemented in March 2023.
Pectra is set to integrate the Ethereum Virtual Machine Object Format (EOF), comprising about 11 improvement proposals that enhance the EVM code on both Layer 1 and Layer 2 levels.
Furthermore, the upgrade will also include EIP-7251, or “increase max effective balance.” This feature will enable individual validators on the Ethereum network to stake more than 32 ETH, with a maximum of 2,048 ETH. This is an upgrade to the current maximum limit of 32 ETH.
By increasing the maximum effective validator balance, individual validators can manage fewer but higher-stake validators, potentially reducing complexity.
The Ethereum core developers are also planning to replace the account abstraction EIP-3074 with a new proposal, EIP-7702. Proposed by Vitalik Buterin, EIP-7702 will introduce a unique transaction type that enables Ethereum account addresses to temporarily function as smart contract wallets during a transaction, with their original state restored afterward.
ETH, the native coin of the Ethereum blockchain, is down by less than 1% in the last 24 hours and is now trading at $3,855 per coin.
