The Calypso upgrade has successfully deployed on Tezos L2 Etherlink, bringing enhanced speed, efficiency, and resilience to dApp developers.
In a press release shared with Cryptowisser, the team said the launch of Calypso introduces various performance improvements and paves the way for faster XTZ withdrawals from Etherlink to Tezos.
Calypso's primary improvements include up to 30x faster smart contract storage, a smaller disk footprint for operator nodes, and better protection against surges and disruptions. Governance has also been improved, making it easier for node operators to participate in key protocol decisions.
Thanks to this latest upgrade, Etherlink is now more stable, providing reliable infrastructure for developers building decentralized applications. A new entry point also allows for fast withdrawals between Etherlink and Tezos.
The team added that the virtual machine now uses caching to improve read/write operations on storage indexes, leading to faster execution times for smart contract storage interactions. This will boost dApps that rely on a high volume of RPC calls, such as for DEXs and other omnichain applications.
Calypso also addresses storage optimization by reducing disk usage for full Rollup Nodes. This serves to make Etherlink more resilient and bolsters network security. The upgrade was deployed following a successful few months in the Etherlink ecosystem. Last month, the Apple Farm rewards program was announced. Designed to incentivize engagement within. This feature enables users to earn “Apples” – native reward points – by interacting with dapps, using DeFi protocols, and participating in network activities. More than 50,000 users have already signed up for the program.
Etherlink provides low latency with sub-second confirmation times. Leveraging Tezos’ two-block finality guarantee coupled with the high-speed execution of Smart Rollups, it ensures transactions are confirmed quickly and securely.
Because it enables seamless integration with existing Ethereum tools, including wallets and indexers, Etherlink facilitates asset transfers to and from other EVM-compatible chains.
Deploying Calypso enables the team to lay the groundwork for the next phase of Etherlink’s evolution. The deployment provides a foundation for faster XTZ withdrawals, establishing a general-purpose mechanism for non-custodial & trustless token bridging. It also paves the way for future support for FA tokens through the FA bridge, making Etherlink a fully interoperable L2 for hosting scalable applications.
Etherlink is an EVM-compatible Layer 2 blockchain powered by Tezos Smart Rollups technology. It empowers developers to smoothly deploy any EVM codebase and migrate users and assets from Ethereum and other interoperable chains, enabling seamless interaction and asset transfers across different networks.
