Filecoin Introduces the Fast Finality (F3) Upgrade

On Wednesday, the Filecoin Foundation announced via X that its Fast Finality (F3) upgrade will take place in January 2025. The upgrade is set to reduce finality time from 900 epochs to just around 2.

With F3, token holders, and Dapp users will see transactions finalized in minutes, not hours. Oracles and bridges will finalize transactions and state changes faster, while node operators like RPC providers and storage providers can use resource-light clients, improving accessibility.

F3 simplifies provider storage onboarding without requiring additional hardware or operational changes. Storage providers utilizing SP clients like Lotus Miner, Venus, or Curio or participating in the Ramo network can significantly enhance their onboarding efficiency. With fast finality reducing publish storage deal times by over 2 minutes, providers can achieve faster data onboarding pipelines and deliver improved SLA performance to their clients.

Filecoin is a decentralized storage network that serves as an incentivization layer on top of the InterPlanetary File System (IPFS). FIL is up 13% in the past 24 hours and is currently trading at $6.984.
