The Metropolitan Museum of Art has ventured into blockchain technology with the launch of Art Links, a mobile-friendly game that challenges players to find connections between artworks in the museum’s collection. In partnership with blockchain startup TRLab, the game rewards players with NFT badges and offers a chance to win one of 500 Met-related prizes, including a curator-led tour and exclusive gift store promotions. Each weekly puzzle features 140 works of art, encouraging deeper engagement with the museum’s vast collection. The project reflects the museum's innovative approach to merging traditional art with modern digital experiences.
Engagement through Blockchain and NFTs
The Art Links game aims to deepen audience interaction with art by incentivizing exploration. Players complete puzzles by discovering connections between artworks across time periods and geographies, earning NFT badges and entering to win prizes. The initiative marks the Met’s first use of blockchain and NFTs to engage visitors in new, creative ways.
The gamification of blockchain technology was once seen as essential to mass adoption of cryptocurrencies. Several Telegram-based games have broken on to the scene recently, renewing talk of increased use of blockchain games.
