Citizens will now be able to pay taxes, fees, tickets and permits entirely in crypto starting with BTC, ETH, USDC, USDT@APompliano @aantonop…
According to the mayor, Panama City will accept bitcoin, ether, USDC, and USDT as payment options. This latest development means that Panama City joins a host of other cities worldwide interested in permitting cryptocurrencies for municipal payments.
Mizrachi stated that,
“Prior administrations tried to push a bill in the Senate to make this possible, but we found a simple way to do it without new legislation. Legally, public institutions must receive funds in $, so we partner with a bank to take care of the transaction receiving in crypto and convert on spot to $. This allows for the free flow of crypto in the entire economy and the entire government.”
In the United States, the U.S. states of New Hampshire and Florida are advancing Bitcoin reserve legislation, signaling growing state-level interest in crypto adoption.
In November, Detroit partnered with PayPal to become America's largest city accepting cryptocurrency for taxes and municipal fees starting mid-2025.
