The Pudgy Penguins NFT project, a collection of 8,888 randomly-generated penguin NFTs, was sold for 750 ETH to a group led by Los Angeles-based entrepreneur Luca Netz. Ownership of the collection will give the new group the ability to launch a token and conduct airdrops to other holders of the Pudgy Penguin NFTs.

Netz and the new team plan to turn Pudgy Penguins into “a brand that’s known both in and outside of the NFT world.” On Friday, Pudgy Penguin trading spiked on the OpenSea NFT marketplace, as rumours of the deal did the rounds. The price of a Pudgy Penguin jumped up as high as 2.5 ETH, with trading of Pudgy NFTs bouncing between 0.7 and 1.4 ETH in the weeks prior.
