Soneium Blockchain Goes Live

Sony Block Solutions Labs (Sony BSL), Sony's blockchain subsidiary, announced on Monday that the Soneium blockchain is now live on the mainnet. This latest development comes after Sony's blockchain subsidiary unveiled the Soneium Minato testnet on the Ethereum network.

The network has recorded over 15.4 million active wallet addresses and over 50 million total transactions. In its press release, Sony BSL said Soneium is a public blockchain, an open network that welcomes everyone without limitations.

Soneium was developed by leveraging Optimism’s OP Stack and Superchain and is designed to bridge the gap between Web2 and Web3 by creating a platform that is more inclusive, accessible, and creative.

The blockchain targets content creators, fans, and communities as its primary audience. This will enable Soneium to address existing issues, such as creators’ rights and equitable value distribution between creators and fans. The platform will achieve its objectives by leveraging initiatives such as Sony’s NFT-based Fan Marketing Platform and Soneium Spark incubation program.

According to Sony BSL, the company is set to expand Soneium’s presence in the blockchain ecosystem by exploring new frameworks and use cases that integrate digital and physical user experience. Sony BSL Director Sota Watanabe added that,

“By simplifying blockchain interactions through intuitive platforms and real-world applications, Soneium empowers creators and users alike to embrace the next era of the internet. From protecting intellectual property to fostering global fan engagement, we’re making it easier for anyone to innovate and connect in meaningful ways.”

Several projects, including LayerZero, Chainlink, Astar Network, and The Graph, have launched on Soneium.
