The Filecoin team announced via X on Tuesday that the Filecoin Network Version 23 Waffle Upgrade has been completed. According to the team, this upgrade makes the Filecoin network faster, smarter, and more developer-friendly for Dapp.

The upgrade means that Filecoin now supports FIP-0091, the newest transaction type used in Ethereum, which would allow developers to easily bring more existing Ethereum contracts to Filecoin. With FIP-0091, developers could simply redeploy older Ethereum contracts to Filecoin, bringing tried-and-tested contracts without any fuss.

The upgrade also comes with Non-Interactive Proof of Replication (NI-PoRep), a feature that simplifies and enhances the process of adding capacity to the Filecoin network. Ni-PoRep reduces message costs, as storage providers now only need to send a single message to onboard capacity to the network instead of two previously.

Filecoin is a decentralized storage network that serves as an incentivization layer on top of the InterPlanetary File System (IPFS). FIL has added more than 2% to its value over the past 24 hours and is currently trading at $3.530.
