Former President Trump backs new DeFi platform, aiming to make America the "crypto capital of the world" despite regulatory hurdles.

Former U.S. President Donald Trump has announced the opening of the whitelist for World Liberty Financial (WLF), a new decentralized finance (DeFi) platform. Trump shared the news on X (formerly Twitter), stating, "Planning to help make America the crypto capital of the world! The whitelist for eligible persons is officially open – this is your chance to be part of this historic moment."

The WLF project, which Trump is spearheading, aims to promote financial freedom and decentralization. The platform has opened its Know Your Customer (KYC) verification process for the sale of the WLFI governance token, with plans to launch its own token in the future.

Currently, the whitelist is open to accredited U.S. investors and non-U.S. persons, reflecting ongoing regulatory challenges in the American crypto space. WLF acknowledged these limitations, stating, "We are not turning our backs on the everyday American. Our mission is to bring financial freedom to everyone, no matter their background or bank balance."

The project emphasized its goal to challenge existing regulatory frameworks that restrict widespread participation in DeFi ventures. "Due to outdated policies and regulations in the US, one whitelist is limited to accredited U.S. investors and another for all non-U.S. persons. We're fighting for changes so all Americans can access World Liberty Financial and join the financial revolution," WLF stated.

Trump's Crypto Push Amid 2024 Election Campaign

Trump's involvement with WLF coincides with his 2024 presidential campaign, where he faces Vice President Kamala Harris. Recent polls suggest Harris maintains a lead following their televised debate, with the election scheduled for November 5.

The former president's endorsement of WLF appears to be part of a broader strategy to engage with the growing crypto and blockchain communities. In recent months, Trump has increased his presence on alternative media platforms and podcasts, seemingly aiming to harness the enthusiasm of crypto supporters as part of his political campaign.

As the WLF whitelist opens, the platform positions itself as an advocate for both financial innovation and regulatory reform in the crypto space.
